Global mining giant BHP Billiton has informed Japan's major steel producers that the monthly pricing mechanism
would replace the current quarterly pricing for metallurgical coal from April in this year.
BHP Billiton would obtain more profit from the increasing coal price, steelmakers were opposed, worried about
the frequent price changes will increase the cost of production fluctuations. Nippon Steel and JFE Steel Corp.
declined to comment this, Sumitomo Metal and Kobe Steel said they have not received the relevant notification
from BHP Billiton.
BHP Billiton requires the monthly purchase of most of the coking coal prices for Japanese steel enterprises,they
would report the price statement, the calculation method and other details later.
