Europe, as a region with earlier development of marine resources, is in the leading position in research and development, application, variety serialization and standardization of steel for offshore platforms. It has been able to produce various steel plates with yield strength of Grade A, B, D and E ranging from 235 to 690mpa. At present, S355, S420, S460 and s690 are the most widely used steels for offshore platform construction in Europe, with good corrosion resistance.
In the 21st century, the application of offshore platform steel is developing rapidly. For example, 355MPa normalized steel produced by Germany, can reach 120mm thickness under the condition of ensuring welding performance. The steel for Ni bearing offshore platforms developed by Japan and Europe respectively has a thickness of more than 210 mm (up to 256 mm) and a yield strength of 690mpa, which can be used for the construction of pile leg structures of jack up platforms over 500 feet.
Nowadays, there are also higher strength steel in offshore platform construction. The yield strength of steel plate can reach 1100mpa mainly through tempering process. However, due to the difficulty of welding and corrosion-resistant cracking, ultra-high strength steel is seldom used in offshore construction.
The main grades of high-strength steel for international offshore platforms are yield strength:355、420、460、500、550、620、690MPa.
Yusheng iron and steel could offer most of the steel plates for offshore platform with yield strength 235 to 690MPa,The requirements for low temperature performance are at least - 40 ≧ or even - 60 ≧, the lamellar tearing resistance is up to 35% in Z direction, and the corrosion resistance is good. The main delivery methods are TMCP, normalizing and tempering.
