Atmospheric corrosion resistance steel plate A588 Grade C and A588 Grade K intended primarily for use in outdoor buildings and welded briges where saving in weight or added durability are important. For these weathering steel A588 Grade C and A588 Grade K,the atmospheric corrosion resistance index, calculated on the basis of the heat analysis of the steel,as described in Guide G 101. Predictive method based on the data of larabee and coburn shall be 6.0 or higher.Weathering steel plate A588 Grade C owned the same mechanical properity as steel plate A588 Grade K,but in chemical composition, weathering steel plate has a higher requirement in some alloy elements contains, such as Molybdenum which should be equal or belows 0.10%,and Columbium should be within 0.005-0.05 %.
Supplementary requirements shall not apply by steel mills unless specified in the purchase order, the main supplementary needs for weathering steel plate and sheet A588 Grade C and A588 Grade K included:S2.Product Analysis,S3.Simulated Post-Weld Heat Treatment of Mechanical Test Coupons,S5.Charpe V-Notch Impact Test,S6.Drop weight test,S8.Ultrasonic test,S15.Reduction of area measurement,S18.Maximum tensile strength,S30.Charpe V-notch impact test for structural shapes.
